Our story

Since 2007

Back in 2007 we decided to create Marina Chania Villas in order to offer to people from all around the world the chance to experience the beauty of our island and Cretan hospitality. Hospitality is our core value and everything we offer is built around it. The word comes from the Greek word “philoxenia” that means love for foreigners. It is simply an element of our culture!

Things to do near

Inspired by the traditional Cretan culture we have chosen dark wood furniture and high quality fabrics to dress our two independent villas so that our guests can enjoy the experience of staying in a traditional family home. In addition our guests can relax on the sun loungers at the sun terrace, enjoying the fresh breeze, within a small grove of olive trees. They can use the pool and barbeque in the summer and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace if they choose to visit us during the winter.

Welcome to the historic Village of Galatas,

Our grandparents were born and raised here in this historical place known as the fierce fighting scene in 1941 during the German parachute invasion of Crete. There is a large war memorial in the village where a wreath-laying ceremony takes place every year on May 20th.

As a visitor, we encourage you to visit the monument erected in memory of the fallen soldiers from the Battle of Galatas, also called ‘the Battle of Pink Hill’.

Galatas is also the place of the birthplace of the most important contemporary Greek composer, Mikis Theodorakis. In November 2013, the Municipal Council of Chania approved the study of the regeneration, restoration, and repair of the paternal house of Mikis Theodorakis at Galatas to convert the residence into a museum available for exhibitions.

On the village square, you will find a Christian Orthodox white church which is called ‘’Saint Nicolas’’ or ‘’Agios Nikolaos’’. If you want to taste traditional Cretan coffee, you can stop at one of the coffee spots that are located there. You will also find some taverns where you can taste traditional food.

Our village is set in a fertile valley and is surrounded by many orange trees and olive groves. Many people produce oil from olive trees yearly as we do for our consumption. Since the Villas are built in an olive grove, we keep the tradition alive, and we collect olives, and we process them to produce our virgin oil.
